Former Braves Star in Panora, Iowa
November 24, 2009

Guthrie Center Times, November 18, 2009

Friday former Atlanta Braves star Ryan Klesko was at J&J Meats in Panora filming a new half hour segment for "Hard Core Hunting TV" to be shown on the Pursuit and ICTV channels. Klesko, an avid hunter and regular on outdoor hunting shows, filmed this segment to highlight the Iowa DNR's "Help Us Stop Hunger" (HUSH) program. HUSH is a cooperative venture among the DNR, deer hunters, local meat lockers, and the Food Bank of Iowa. The goal of HUSH is to simultaneously thin the deer population in Iowa while providing high quality red meat to needy Iowans.
Jim McNabb of Lake Panorama was responsible for bringing Klesko to J&J's. Jim met Klesko a few years ago while hunting snow geese in Missouri, and they have remained close friends ever since.
Klesko, a former all-star first baseman for the Atlanta Braves, hit over 21 home runs in eight of his 13 seasons, hitting a career high 36 in 1996. He made history hitting home runs in three consecutive road games against the Indians in the 1995 World Series. He ranks fourth on the Braves' all time slugging percentage list at .525.
